Removing all non-English applications, as well as the ones that are not relevant enough, too pricey or not interesting enough, we got a list of a few good apps that we’d like to share with you. MedCalc
One of the best medical calculators that you could ever get is MedCalc. It includes a wide variety of formulas, plus information and references for each one of them. Apart from having been voted by over 5,000 people as an amazing tool, it is also completely free to use. It has been installed by more than 7,000 people by now, and you can get it from the iTunes Store right now. This tool has been specifically designed to work on iPhone 5, as well as most other iPhones, as long as they run on 5.1.1 or a newer version of the same OS. MedCalc comes in English, but there’s no need to worry if you don’t speak English that well. Heart Pro
Another interesting app is the Heart Pro and it is entirely focused on cardiology. Whether you are a doctor in this field or a medicine student, you will find it useful because it comes with 3D that help you look at the human heart from all possible angles. Although not a free tool, Heart Pro received dozens of good ratings on the internet, and all users seem to love it. The price is $9.99, which is a unique one, so there is no need to subscribe or pay a monthly fee. Apart from having access to all this information and 3D pictures, you can also rotate them and practice cutting open directly on your device. The app can be used on your tablet or smartphone as long as you have iOS 7.0 or later. You can also give between the various available languages, such as French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean and Japanese. Unfortunately, there is no Android application yet, but the developers are said to be working on it.
CardioMath Tool
The same like the one before, CardioMath is a tool that helps cardiologists a lot. Compared to the previous one, though, this app is free to download, and it works a little differently. Being more of a calculator, it comes with 50 common formulas. By basically doing all the math for you, CardioMath can be used by doctors, as well as medicine students, but also nurses, technicians, pharmacists and many others in the field. You can download it on your Android or iOS device, the only requirements being Android v2.2 or iOS 5.0.
PubMed Mobile
Entirely customized for Android device, PubMed Mobile is a free tool that gives you quick access to PubMed from your smartphone or tablet. If you don’t know about PubMed yet, you should know that it is a website with over 23 million citations from well-known science journals, online books and other resources. Being completely focused on medicine and including all particular fields, the app lets you look for citations using keywords and access the full article by clicking on the link. All you need to have is Android v1.5 and you’re good to go.
Epocrates
Thanks to this tool, you can find useful clinical information about various products and prescriptions, including drug interactions and other relevant details. Coming only in English at the moment, Epocrates requires Android 1.5 or iOS 6.0 to function properly.
EMS Tracker
EMS Tracker works exclusively on iPhones and iPads, being a free app that has been created for the EMS staff. It lets you keep track of everything you do by recording a log of all the critical events occurring every day. You can take notes using EMS, but you can also add patient details and interventions that you’ve previously made. To make everything easier, you can email the notes afterwards and personalize the events tab to create a maximum of 8 unique ones.
EyeChart
For those who are particularly interested in eyecare, EyeChart is a really useful and interesting app. It can be used for free, and it has been specifically designed for iOS. The basic version lets you measure the visual acuity of any patient using the reknown eye chart that you’re probably familiar with. Apart from this, the PRO version lets you customize the charts and use it remotely from another device. Being very useful for home visits, both of them are free to download and come with an English interface that is very easy to use and understand. iOS 3.2 is enough for the EyeChart basic version while you will need to have version 4.2 installed for the PRO one. Medscape
One of the most reknown tools that every doctor should use is Medscape. You can get it on iPhone and Android, as well, and it is free of charge and subscription-free. This one is particularly useful in terms of diagnosis support and comes with drug information, news, pharmacy and physicians directories, etc. It is currently used by over 30,000 customers, and its general rating is of 3 stars out of 5. Including references for more than 7,000 drugs and 3,500 diseases, it does a great job at providing you with the right information at the right time. You can get it on your Kindle Fire, iPad, Android device or iPhone, only needing to have iOS 7 or Android v2.3.3. A good way to do this is to download the MedPage Today application on your tablet or smartphone. This tool is adapted for both Android and iOS phones, so all you need to do is go to iTunes or Google Play and look it up. It is free to get and only comes in English, since the entirety of the news are collected from English journals.
